Overview
-
Each month I go into the homerooms for a class period to teach a counseling lesson. The general curriculum is drawn from State standards, and the specific lesson topics are designed to meet the social/emotional developmental needs of kids in 6th grade. I use a combination of experiential learning, group discussion, and fun activities to deliver the content. I begin each lesson with an overview, including learning goals for our time together. This part of my job is a lot of fun, and a great way for the kids and I to get to know one another at the beginning of the year. Hopefully as they see me in their rooms regularly, they become that much more comfortable with me as a resource in building and someone they can approach on their own if they want or need any support.
