There are a few different ways to handle lunch money. The easiest way to handle lunch money is to either write a check or send in cash to be deposited into your child’s lunch account. You can also pay on line but there is a fee of 3.95% included in that. The cafeteria will send you reminders when their accounts run low. You can also send money in daily if you don’t want to pay a large amount in advance. If you choose to send money in daily, it is VERY important that cash is placed in a baggie or envelope labeled with your child’s name so that there are no mix-ups when I send the money to the cafeteria.
LUNCH PIN NUMBERS:
Learning to navigate the cafeteria can be very tricky for kindergarten students! One thing that makes it a little bit easier is for kindergarten students to memorize their pin number. These pin numbers work like the pin number of a debit card. When the child enters their pin number in the cafeteria, it automatically deducts the price of their full lunch or milk out of their account. Even if your child doesn’t plan on buying lunch or milk this year, it is still important for them to learn their pin number. Your child’s pin number is written on the front of this Open House folder.
Because of food allergies I am asking each child to bring their own snack each day. In the past many of the students use snack time as a time to finish up whatever they didn’t eat at lunch. No drinks and please try and make it an easy snack for the child to open and eat.
At Avery, we believe that kindergarteners should get to enjoy being five or six. When they get home from school, we want them to have plenty of time to run, play, and enjoy being a kid. Therefore, as a grade level, we do not assign traditional “homework.” Our hope is that, in lieu of homework, you will read with your child for twenty minutes each evening.
Wednesday folders, also known as backpack mail, come home in your child’s backpack each Wednesday. Wednesday (orange) folders typically contain general all-school information, as well as Room 104’s classroom newsletter. PLEASE empty and return Wednesday folders on Thursday so that we can begin preparing them for the next week. If you opt for electronic copies there are times that your child’s folder will come home empty. Just be sure to send it back on Thursday.
If your child is going to be absent, please let the office know as soon as possible. To report an absence, call the office at 963-6425 or email Nanci Pollihan at firstname.lastname@example.org and please email me at email@example.com
Dismissal is at 3:00 p.m. If your child goes to Adventure Club, staff will take them to their meeting place. Students who are picked up at dismissal time will walk with me to the Bompart exit. I can only dismiss students to parents, babysitters, arranged walking groups or siblings. If someone else is picking up your child who typically doesn’t pick up, please notify Mrs. Pollihan or myself prior to dismissal.
Room 104 has a webpage connected to Avery’s homepage. Throughout the year, you will be able to access the school calendar, my email contact information, classroom newsletters and pictures. Occasionally I will post specific websites that have information or games that support what we have been learning in class. Please stop by and check it out.
I also have a account so please follow us at @MrsHoward104. I try and post daily to our twitter account so that you can see some of the fun things happening in the classroom.
Birthdays are a big deal in kindergarten. Bringing birthday treats to school is welcome, but optional. Please remember to send any utensils that we may need for the snack.
BIRTHDAY PARTY INVITATIONS:
Avery school policy restricts birthday invitations from being handed out at school. If you would like to send birthday invitations to your child’s classmates, please consult the Avery Buzz Book. (The Buzz Book is a list of phone numbers and addresses of Avery families. They will be available for purchase in the fall.) If the entire class is invited to the party I can make sure they go in the Wednesday Folder.
Unless you are in Adventure Club, arrival begins no earlier than 8:00 a.m. (Adult supervision will not be available until that time.) Please say goodbye to your child at the front doors and allow them to enter the school and begin their school day independently.
Scholastic book orders will go home at the beginning of each month starting in September. All book orders are due back by the 15th of each month. Although multiple orders are sent home, you only need to make one general payment to Scholastic for each order. Scholastic will only accept checks or money orders. This is an inexpensive and quality way to build up your child’s library at home.
5TH GRADE BUDDIES:
Mrs. Fitzgerald’s fifth grade class will be our “buddy class” this year. Each student will be paired with a fifth grader to be their buddy for the year. We pair up with our buddy class about once a month for various activities.
