Proposition E Construction Begins
Construction for Proposition E bond issue projects is under way this summer at Hixson Middle School, Walter Ambrose Family Center and Avery, Bristol and Edgar Road schools.
The largest project is the expansion of Hixson, which will include a beautiful, light-filled new main entrance facing Elm Avenue as well as office space and new library, and a two-story academic wing at the back of the building. Other Hixson projects include expansion of the cafeteria, an additional gymnasium (built of concrete and designed as a safe room that can hold everyone in the school), improved parking and safety and accessibility enhancements.
All schools will have secure vestibules installed that will include electronically controlled entry devices, secured service windows and video monitoring. All buildings will also receive security improvements such as glass mitigation for interior classroom and office doors, operable door deadbolts and vision shades. The district will also install exterior doors with improved security measures, additional alarms and video monitoring, as well as ground level window security enhancements.
Accessibility improvements include elevators to be installed at Avery, Bristol and Edgar Road. The district will also improve building access by providing accessible sidewalks/ramps along with improved signage.
All projects are scheduled to be completed by the 2021-22 school year.
