• Approximately thirty staff members of the Webster Groves School District have participated in revising the K-8 Social Studies curriculum from 2019 to the present.

Throughout this revision process our goals have been:

    • To emphasize inquiry skills and critical thinking as outlined by the Tools of Social Science Inquiry.
    • To design an inclusive and relevant Social Studies curriculum with an emphasis on equity and social justice.
    • To create a scope and sequence that meets the needs of our students at each developmental level while aligning with the 2016 Missouri Learning Standards.

You can find the proposed documents linked to this website.

As you examine the document, take note of the Learning Targets. Essentially, this is the learning in which WGSD students will engage. These targets are based upon the Missouri Learning Standards as well as the Social Justice Standards outlined by Teaching Tolerance, a project of the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The window to share feedback via the survey will remain open until the end of the day on Friday, January 8th, 2021. At that time, the K-8 Social Studies Curriculum Coordinators and teacher facilitators will review the feedback and make the determined changes.

The final curriculum documents will be presented to the WGSD Board of Education for approval later in the spring of 2021.

We appreciate your time and feedback!
