Sophomore Service Learning Day
One day each year in April, the entire sophomore class is sent out to give back to the community through a day of service. More than 300 students and over 60 teachers worked at 28 different organizations in the greater St. Louis area performing duties such as creating city gardens, sorting baby clothes and items, working with pre-school children, reading to elementary students, washing cars and doing chores for senior citizens, distributing meals at food pantries, and more.
Sophomore Service Learning Day was the idea of two students who participated in a class on service learning. They enjoyed and learned so much during their class that they wanted their peers to have the same opportunity. The students assisted in planning and organizing the first Sophomore Service Learning Day in April, 2011.
