Happy Holidays from St. Louis

Happy Holidays to all from the great Class of 1954. I thought I would send this before Janet and I leave next week to spend the winter in Venice, Florida. We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving as we look forward to the Christmas season. Each year I try to remember to send an update on the annual Webster-Kirkwood Turkey Day game. Recent years have not been kind to our Statesmen and that continued this year. Kirkwood won the game for the 4th straight year but Webster still leads the all-time series 58-50-7 so there is hope. This years game was unusual as Kirkwood won the Class 6 state championship game which was played the Saturday before the Turkey Day game. In previous years the state championship game was played the Saturday after Turkey Day and the schools agreed to play their junior varsity against each other when one of them was in the state final. This year for the first time the varsity teams played after the state final - Kirkwood won 17-6. Click link below for article from the Post-Dispatch.

Now, let's have some fun and send you a holiday quiz. This is a product of my sick mind to send a new address of one of our classmates but first this lead in. How many of you remember Mel Blanc from our high school years? No, he wasn't one of our teachers but was known as "The Man of 1000 Voices". Mel was the voice of many of the Looney Tunes Cartoons and you heard him as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety Bird and Wile E. Coyote among others. He was also known for playing the Union Station Train Caller who announced over the loudspeaker "Train leaving on Track 5 for Anaheim, Azusa and Cucamonga". He pronounced the last destination as "Cuuuu-Ca-Mon-Gaaaa". The point of all this sets up the new address of a well-known and fun classmate, Sam Brown. You may remember at several reunions when we would give Sam an award for the most times moved and he is at it again. I asked Sam to detail his many moves and he sent the attachment above titled "Cities I Have Lived In" - 35 moves in all. He should be in the Mayflower Moving Hall of Fame. He is on his way to Cucamonga again. At any rate you will enjoy our man in motions list by clicking here.

In closing, Sam and Sharon are doing fine and we just attended his 80th birthday party. Sam is still his cheery self and a real inspiration ... and great friend. In addition to his many moves Sam is remembered as a pioneer in the field of mascots. During his days at Drury College how many of you are aware that he was the Panther Mascot? - according to John Wolff Sam would appear in his Panther costume at halftime riding his tricycle around the court. Cheers!
