School History

  • School History
This is an exciting year for Givens Elementary School. Since 1983, this school (formerly known as Webster Groves Elementary Computer School) has served students across the district as a magnet school, with students chosen through a lottery system. The 2021-2022 school year will mark the first year of this school opening as a neighborhood school. As we grow our school community, we will build upon the strong community and family feel that Dr. Henry Givens Jr. Elementary School has always cherished.

In addition to growing our school community, we are also able to utilize all of the indoor and outdoor space on our campus (that we previously shared with Steger Sixth Grade Center). We appreciate the minor and major updates that will work to increase safety, security and accessibility and increase the elementary school feel. We will utilize our downstairs level to service kindergarten through first grade; second through fifth grades will be upstairs. There will be some overlap as younger students come upstairs to participate in art, music and physical education classes; attend events within our auditorium and enjoy lunch in the cafeteria. Our outdoor spaces will provide flexible learning areas, opportunities for students to play and explore and areas for students to learn more about nature (with plenty of space for teachers and students to re-imagine additional ways to utilize the space).

We are ready to embark on this journey and our goals for the upcoming school year include creating a school that ensures a sense of belonging for each student, growth as a Professional Learning Community and partnership with families and the community to ensure success for each student.
