Course Descriptions

Students will register for four (4) first choice sessions and three (3) alternatives.

1 Science & Criminal Justice: Welcome to the world of criminal justice. Students will explore the worlds of Forensic Toxicology, Forensic Anthropology, Fingerprints and Impressions, and Blood Spatter. Students will utilize laboratory investigations and "case study" learning approaches for a fun and informative look at the world of Forensic Science.  
2 Drones & Aerial Adventures: Soar to new heights with drones and aerial technology! Design, build, and test flying creations including kites, planes, rockets, and drones. Students will learn the principles of flight, navigate drones through obstacle courses, and even capture stunning aerial footage. Whether it's programming flight paths or mastering aerial maneuvers, this class will provide high-flying fun for aspiring drone pilots and engineers.
3 Lights, Camera, History! Exploring U.S. HistoryThrough Film: Get ready to embark on an exciting journey through history! Students will have the opportunity to think like a historian while evaluating films based on historical events. Through the lens of cinematic storytelling, students will explore various historical periods, and events, gaining insights into the ways filmmakers interpret and represent history on screen.;
4 Culinary Chemistry Camp: Grab your hat and apron, it's time to cook! Turn your love for food into a scientific feast! This class will tickle taste buds and minds alike. Join us for a delicious journey through the world of Culinary Chemistry!
5 How to be an Explorer of the World: Students will study the interconnectedness of art, science, engineering, and design to grow the way we notice things, ask questions, seek solutions, and think creatively. Students will learn to analyze the world around them through exploring and documenting the art and science of everyday life. Students will apply these new skills to various STEAM activities. Students in this class will also assist in maintaining the courtyard including watering and harvesting plants and caring for the chickens and fish. Please note, we will spend time outside during most class periods, including walks/physical activity.
6 The Science of Monsters: Come take a journey as students learn about famous Greek hero myths and their monster counterparts while researching the “science of monsters”.  Students will learn about structures, stories, and ideas expressed in these mythologies while creatively designing their own monster that embodies a fundamental human fear. 
7 Storytelling with Technology: Combine storytelling with technology! Students will use digital tools to create multimedia storytelling projects, such as digital storybooks, podcasts, or animated videos. This class enhances both storytelling and technology skills.
8 Aqua-Engineering Adventures: Make a splash with hands-on engineering challenges centered around water! Students will design and build water rockets, experiment with buoyancy, and construct their own miniature water parks. This wet and wild STEAM camp will keep everyone cool while exploring the principles of physics, engineering, and fluid dynamics.
9 Paint your ART out: This is where art is born so pull up your sleeves and get your hands dirty.  This class will offer students a special opportunity to explore various painting techniques and styles, including acrylic, watercolor, and oil painting.  Students will learn how to bring their art visions to life in pursuing their own ideas, fostering creativity and self-expression.
10 Pins & Needles: A little sewing, a little embroidery, and a lot of fun!  In this class, students will learn to combine cloth and thread to create beautiful needle art.  Lots of choice and coaching is offered as students explore various techniques in sewing and embroidery. This class will also support students' hand-eye coordination and improved focus and problem solving abilities.
11 Fashion FUNdamentals: Are you passionate about fashion? Do you love to create unique and innovative designs?  Fashion FUNdamentals taps into a students natural desire to express themselves through clothing in a fun and engaging environment. Students will learn how to take a simple garment, from concept to completion that encourages creative visioning, self-expression, and design thinking.  Paired along with fashion upcycling, students will learn to create an entire look and vision with coordinated pieces and accessories.  Focus will be on fashion styling basics, personal styling, trends, self-esteem, and self-expression. 
12 In My Reading Era: Let's explore and enjoy reading! This class will focus on the upcoming Truman Nominees. We will read, discuss, and create as we enjoy these great novels. The Truman Readers Award encourages students in the early teen years to express their unique voice through exploring new literary genres, communicating with their peers about young adult literature, and honoring authors writing for young teens.
13 Math Detectives: This course is for students who love math! It will focus on mathematical problem solving, logic based thinking, and critical thinking skills. Students will be provided with a wide variety of challenging situations that can be solved using various methods. Students will play mathematical games as well as participate in math contests and competitions. This course will provide opportunities for mathematical enrichment, discovery, creativity, and collaboration! If you have a passion for mathematics and love a challenge, this course is for you!
14 The Great Food Truck Challenge: Welcome to the world of Food Trucks!  Students will have fun learning with this project-based learning experience that integrates math, reading, art, and technology to create the perfect food truck.  Students will be challenged with the task of designing and marketing an original Food Truck concept.  Students will have the opportunity to develop their own food truck theme, budget, website, menu, and ultimately design a commercial advertisement.  This is the perfect course for students interested in creativity and entrepreneurship. 
15 The Power of You: Embracing our Authenticity. 6th grade students will work with Mrs. Bardot (8th grade counselor) and Mrs. West (6th grade counselor) to explore what it means to be true to themselves as they enter the middle school world. Being authentic allows you to express your truth, embrace your uniqueness and honor your individuality. Each week, students will focus on a core piece of what it means to be our true selves: Self-Awareness, Integrity, Self-Acceptance and Having Meaningful Relationships. Come join Mrs. Bardot and Mrs. West for daily activities to embrace the Power of You!

16 Summer Grooves Dance Workshop: Immerse yourself in the rhythm of summer with our vibrant and energetic dance workshop! The Summer Grooves Dance Workshop is an exciting and dynamic course designed for dance enthusiasts of all levels. Whether you're a beginner looking to explore the world of dance or an experienced dancer wanting to refine your skills, this class offers a fun and supportive environment for everyone.
17 Entrepreneurship: Dive Into The Shark Tank: Welcome to "Entrepreneurship Challenge: Dive into the Shark Tank!"—an exciting and immersive class designed for students interested in unleashing their inner entrepreneur. Students will explore the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, develop creative business ideas, and experience the thrill of pitching their concepts in a simulated Shark Tank environment.
18 Center Stage: Students will have the exciting opportunity to delve into the wonderful world of theater arts. Throughout the course, students will engage in a variety of activities designed to develop their creativity, confidence, and performance skills. The core of our class exercises will revolve around theater games, improvisations, monologues, costume design as well as set design. These activities will not only allow students to express themselves creatively, but also encourage teamwork and collaboration.
19 Stem Sports: Where Sports & Science Meet: Do you have a passion for sports? STEM Sports: Where Sports & Science Meet will provide students the opportunity to apply science and math concepts through the lens of active sports. Students will participate in hands-on active engagement in activities such as outdoor fitness activities, obstacle courses, parachute games, relay races, bean bag activities, and team sports.
