    3941 DRAMA

    Open to Grades:  9-12
    This course is structured for the personal development of the student through movement, open scenes, script analysis and exploration of various acting exercises and philosophies.  In Drama I, the class will explore the emotional, intellectual and critical capacities to strengthened their theatrical performance.


    3984 IMPROVISATION
    Credit : 1/2 credit
    Open to Grades:  9-12
    This course is structured for the personal development of the student through mime, improvisation and exploration of the history of comedy. Students will be required to learn the rules of improvisation, all of the games and perform in competition.


    3970 ADVANCED DRAMA
    Credit: 1 unit
    Prerequisite: Drama I
    Open to Grades: 10-12
    In this class, students will be immersed in an intense theatrical production schedule. They will study the basics of several acting theorists, learn some theater history, participate in writing exercises for the stage, and they will participate in a multitude of performance opportunities. By participating in the class each student will also generate a repertoire of audition/performance pieces and/or portfolio of on-camera work. Any student wanting to continue study in theater production beyond Advanced Drama will enroll in Independent Study and be approved prior to the start of the school year.

    3928 TECHNICAL THEATER
    Credit: 1/2 unit
    Open to Grades: 9-12
    In this class, students will learn the fundamentals of the theater hierarchy, stage design, set construction, and scenic artistry for theatrical productions. Each student will be exposed to a lecture style classroom and a lab environment to learn the principles of production. Hands-on experience is provided through both WGHS main stage productions (Fall and Spring) in both theaters on campus.

    3929 ADVANCED TECHNICAL THEATER
    Credit: 1/2 unit
    Prerequisite: Tech Theater and Instructor Approval
    Open to Grades: 9-12
    In this class, students will be immersed in theatrical production, learning some theater history, participating in scenic drafting, lighting instrumentation and lighting design exercises for the stage. There will be a few guest speakers, field trips to the Rep and various small stagecraft labs. Each student will also generate a portfolio of design work.

    3938 THEATER PRODUCTIONS CLASS
    Credit: ½ unit
    Prerequisite: Advanced Drama I
    Open to Grades: 11-12
    In this class, students are introduced to the concepts of operating a production company. They will be exploring performance opportunities that put their classwork in front of a live audience made up of their community pulled from our campus. This class focuses on the fundamentals of staging with an emphasis on ensemble work. The class will cover some basics of directing when time allows. These students will be expected to read/analyze/cut/stage/memorize at a rigorous pace with LIVE performances almost every other week. By the end of the semester, the students will have developed all the necessary plans to start their own nonprofit 501(c)3 theater company with examples provided by some guest speakers from around St. Louis who currently run theater companies.
