A note from Clark's School Counselor:

Welcome to the 2023/24 school year! It has been a great start so far and I am excited about everything happening. I offer support to Clark students, staff, and families through consulting, individual counseling, small group counseling activities and weekly or biweekly classroom lessons.

Clark’s school counseling program aims to ensure all students have a positive place to grow as a learner using a few tools…

    1. We teach the Zones of Regulation to identify feelings and coping skills.
    2. We use the Second Step curriculum to teach learning skills, empathy, emotion management, and problem solving. Throughout each unit, your child will bring home activities and skills to practice at home.

I look forward to a great year together. Please reach out with questions about counseling services or lessons.

Upcoming Events, Activities, & Volunteer Opportunities:

    2023/2024 Room Parent Sign-Up & Responsibilities

    Class Party Dates:
    Fall: Friday, September 22nd, 2:00-2:40pm
    Winter: Thursday, December 21st, 2:00-2:40pm
    Spring: Thursday, March 14th, 2:00-2:40pm
Staff Appreciation Week: Monday, May 6th - Friday, May 10th

    Responsibilities:
**NEW: Lead Room Parent is for a parent who is ALL IN and can help all the room parents get organized, stay in contact with the classroom teacher, send out the reminder emails, let the other parents in the classroom know the plan, and

You and the other volunteers for the classroom work together.

    1) Communicate with the teacher- Asking first if they have any requests for the party, checking for classroom allergies, and letting them know the final game plan for the party
    2) Plan each party- Make sure it is age and ability appropriate and can be done in the time provided.
    3) Collect needed materials
    4) Execute the party in the classroom
    5) Plan a gift and/or a way to say thank you to the classroom staff during Staff Appreciation week.

If you have enough volunteers in your classroom, you can split the party responsibilities amongst each other. Usually, room parents are asked to plan games and/or crafts and provide snacks. The PTO provides $225 for each classroom, this is approximately $55 for each of the three parties and $55 for Staff Appreciation Week. Save your receipts and you can email a copy of your receipt to clarkptotreasurer2@gmail.com to be reimbursed.

Each grade level do things a bit different, so it is important to communicate with the classroom teachers. In the past, the K, 1st, 2nd, & 4th did their own thing as individual classrooms, but the 3rd & 5th grade would combine and do things as a grade level. It is important to check with the teachers and see what they prefer.

    1) Sign-up for the classroom(s) that you would like to volunteer as a room parent.

Clark Spring Spiritwear Shop is Now Open!

    Survey Update

Two different times this year, we invited students, families and staff to complete surveys. These surveys solicited participants' perspectives about learning strategies, culture and climate, and experiences in the classroom and/or school. At Clark, I’ve sat down with Mrs. Starbuck, our counselor, and Mr. Weston, our social worker, to look over our results. We discussed our areas of strength and ways we can make Clark even better for our students. I’m thankful for the feedback we received and excited about the growth that will occur because of it. -- Dr. Hays

    Message from Nurse Meagan

Whew that tree pollen...am I right??? Spring is fully in swing! If your child is anything like me, spring allergy symptoms are really wreaking havoc right now (sneezing, runny nose, itchy/watery eyes, nose, throat, ears). Make sure your kids are taking their daily allergy medication if they suffer from seasonal allergies. Allergies can also trigger asthma symptoms, so likewise, make sure your kids are taking their asthma *controller* medications per their asthma action plans (green zone medications) to keep asthma symptoms under control.

Here at school, I have an eyewash solution to help sooth eye symptoms. I also instruct kids to wash their face and front of their hair with a damp paper towel after coming inside to minimize any pollen that may have collected on their head. This is a great tip for at home as well. It is also important to teach kids to not rub their eyes as this can introduce bacteria to the eyes, increase the risk for pink eye, and make eyes more swollen and tender. Here is are two pollen count sites for monitoring:
