The Webster Groves School District is considering putting a no-tax rate increase bond issue on the Aug. 2 ballot to provide money for 
safety/security, accessibility, infrastructure projects and curricular needs. Before the district makes a recommendation to the Board of Education to consider, we'd like to hear from you.
Please make plans to attend one of the open house events listed below and let us know your opinions by completing an important survey -- open until Fri., April 8 -- at the link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WGSDINFRASTRUCTURE . Results from the survey will be used to help narrow our priorities moving forward. Every contribution, including comments, will receive proper attention and results will be posted.
Open house events are held at the WGSD Service Center, 3232 S. Brentwood Blvd. next week:
April 4: 7:30-9 a.m., 12-1:30 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m.
April 6: 6-7:30 p.m.
Congratulations to Boys and Girls Basketball Teams
For the first time in school history, both the Webster Groves High School girls and boys basketball teams advanced to the Class 5 semifinals, 
held in Springfield in March.
The boys team clinched the Class 5 state title March 19, defeating Helias 72-53; the girls took third, defeating Smithville on the same day, 54-33.
Thrive Students Take Top Honors at Competitions
Students in the High School's Thrive business incubator program have had great success in recent area pitch competitions. Seven Thrive businesses pitched for a 
total of $700 in funding provided by Waterway Car Wash March 9. Essential Candle Company LLC won first place ($500) and Andromeda World LLC won second place ($250).
On March 16, Thrive businesses competed in The Big Pitch, presented by Catalyst and funded by several school districts, alumni associations, The Black Entrepreneurs Inc. and Elite Cuisine. Twenty-four student business teams from Parkway, Catalyst, Maplewood-Richmond Heights, Jennings, WGHS and South County Tech pitched for a total of $7,000 in funding.
Thrive's Matt Enright and Endure Hoops took home first place for $2000 and Ava Bruckel, Adelyn Armstrong, Mackenzie Fisk and Savannah Haney of Essential Candles won third place and $500.
Two Chosen for Missouri Scholars 100
Congratulations to Ivy Clark and Emma Rohrs for being selected for the 2022 Missouri Scholars 100, a statewide program sponsored by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals that honors 100 of Missouri's top academic students in the graduating class of 2022. Ivy and Emma will be recognized at a luncheon in Columbia, Mo. May 1.
WGHS Chess Team Places Second at State
Congratulations to the High School chess team of Joe Harned, Tristan Archer, Andrew Voelker and Ben Dunsford, which placed second in the Missouri State Scholastic Chess Championship tournament March 19 at Battle High School in Columbia, sponsored by the Missouri Chess Association. More than 200 students from across the state -- ranging from kindergartners through high school age -- participated.
WGHS Echo Honored by Columbia Scholastic Press Association
Columbia Scholastic Press Association announced Gold Circle Awards for last year's print and digital contests.
Graduate Kelly Woodyard won a Certificate of Merit for her photo "Junior Lacrosse Player Fights for the Ball" and senior Ava Musgraves won third place for “Columnist Asks 'Are These Brownies Worth 100-hour commitment?'“
In addition, the association awarded the Echo hybrid publication a Silver Crown for overall excellence.
Hudson School Celebrates Excellence For Black History Month
Delayed by snow days in February, Hudson School held its Black History Month celebration in March with presentations by African-American entrepreneurs, musicians and more. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch covered this with a series of photographs that you can see at link:
Wednesday Club Poetry Winner
Congratulations to High School senior Antoinetta Lopolito, whose poem, "Hello Again," was chosen as a winner in the 2022 Annual Junior Original Poetry Contest sponsored by The Wednesday Club of St. Louis. She'll read her poem and receive her prize at the awards reception and tea on Wed., April 13.
Free Meals to End May 27
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is not extending free meals past this school year, which means free meals that have been provided for all students will end May 27. After that date, the Webster Groves School District will go back to the National School Lunch Program and National School Breakfast Program, which charges for meals.
Students attending summer school will need to ensure that there is money in their accounts to cover breakfast and lunch if they choose to eat during summer school. Free and reduced-price meals will be available for those who qualify.
Meal prices this summer are as follows:
Breakfast for Webster Groves High School and Hixson Middle School $1.75
Breakfast for Webster Groves Elementary School Students $1.70
Lunch for Webster Groves High School and Hixson Middle School $2.85
Lunch for Webster Groves Elementary Students $2.80
The Food and Nutrition Office will continue to accept free and reduced meal applications for the school year.
