Welcome to The Paw Print! Here is what’s happening at Edgar Road:

October Home/School Connection Questions
Why is family important to you? What do you value most about your family? What is hard about your family for you? What do you do when you are being a “good family member”?

How Can I Support ERS Students?
As you can imagine, teachers are always looking for new ways to support student learning. Donors Choose is one of the new ways we are purchasing materials for the classrooms that extend beyond the school budget or mini-grants. The mission of Donors Choose is to “make it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need, moving us closer to a nation where students in every community have the tools and experiences they need for a great education.” Here is how it works:

You find a project:
Find a classroom project that inspires you and give as little as $1. We're a public charity, so your donation is tax-deductible.
Donors Choose fulfills the order:
When a project is fully funded, we purchase all the requested items and ship them directly to the school.
Teachers thank you:
Every donor gets a thank-you letter from the teacher, photos from the classroom, and a report of how each dollar was spent.
Edgar Road staff currently have the following projects to support if you “choose”:
Tiffany Tebbe (Kindergarten Teacher): Learning with Osmo & Tiffly
Thank you for your support!

From The Secretary

Read, Right & Run Marathon
Every year, Edgar Road students have the opportunity to participate in Go! St. Louis' Read, Right and Run Marathon. Students work through the year to read 26 books, do 26 good deeds and run 26 miles. We celebrate our accomplishment with a area-wide race in Forest Park on Saturday, April 6. Please see the attached letter for directions on how to register your child for this fun and challenging program! The deadline is Oct. 31. Contact Ms. Schrappen with any questions.

Picture Retake day is on Thursday, October 25th. If you would like to get new photos taken for your child or if your child was absent on picture day, please have them camera ready! Order forms are available in the office or you can order online at www.inter-state.com/order code 33022WB.

From the Counselor
Third and Fourth grade students are working this week on matching coping strategies to appropriate situations. Many students say that they usually go to their rooms and calm down, which is a great strategy for home! We are working on building our strategies for when we are at school, at a friend’s, etc. They are doing some great work and are really enjoying learning how to stay in the green zone!
Fifth grade students will be applying this week for the Team 5 positions they want to do for the next 10-12 weeks. The groups will be: Reading Buddies, Playground Pals and Service Projects. I know they are excited to get closer to their Team 5 activities! We will apply this week and group up next week! They have become SO knowledgeable about the 7 Habits of Happy Kids! I am so proud of the work they have accomplished so far!

Kindergarten, First and Second will be finishing their units on feelings and coping strategies. Stay tuned for next week’s goals!
Ask your child:
What coping strategies do you like to use in the classroom?
What coping strategies do you like to use when you are at home?
What strategies do you use at a friend’s house? Grandparent’s house?
Can you teach me a coping strategy that you have learned? When could you use it?

It is always a pleasure to work with your children! Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
