Welcome to The Paw Print! Here is what’s happening at Edgar Road:

Dear Parents,
It’s that time of year when we come together and discuss your child’s progress at school. Parent teacher conferences are the week of November 12th and we are using to make signups as convenient as possible for you. Please click on or enter the following web address into your browser window to get started:

Next, select your child's teacher; you can select more than one if applicable to your family. You will then register your child's name, then your name and contact information. This creates a registration for each child and sends you a confirmation email with a link to choose a conference time for that teacher.

It is a two-step process, as the first registration just gets you into the system. Going to the email that is generated from your registration and clicking on the active link, will allow you to choose a conference time for the teacher. Please feel free to contact the office or your child's teacher if you have any problems getting signed up. We are looking forward to seeing everybody the week of November 12th!

October Home/School Connection Questions

Why is family important to you? What do you value most about your family? What is hard about your family for you? What do you do when you are being a “good family member”?

How Can I Support ERS Students?
As you can imagine, teachers are always looking for new ways to support student learning. Donors Choose is one of the new ways we are purchasing materials for the classrooms that extend beyond the school budget or mini-grants. The mission of Donors Choose is to “make it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need, moving us closer to a nation where students in every community have the tools and experiences they need for a great education.” Here is how it works:
You find a project:
Find a classroom project that inspires you and give as little as $1. We're a public charity, so your donation is tax-deductible.
Donors Choose fulfills the order:
When a project is fully funded, we purchase all the requested items and ship them directly to the school.
Teachers thank you:
Every donor gets a thank-you letter from the teacher, photos from the classroom, and a report of how each dollar was spent.
Edgar Road staff currently have the following projects to support if you “choose”:
Tiffany Tebbe (Kindergarten Teacher): Learning with Osmo & Tiffly
Thank you for your support!

From The Secretary
We are excited about our second annual Veteran’s Day celebration on November 9th at 2:00PM. We would like all families to have the opportunity to honor a family Veteran, the memory of a Veteran, or those currently in service. If you have someone to honor, please fill out the form sent home with your child today and return it to your child's teacher to be placed on our “WALL OF HONOR” by October 26th. If your family member can also attend the Veteran’s Day Celebration, please return the bottom portion of the parent letter. They will be invited to sit up front in a special area and will be recognized for their service during the celebration.

Read, Right & Run Marathon
Every year, Edgar Road students have the opportunity to participate in Go! St. Louis' Read, Right and Run Marathon. Students work through the year to read 26 books, do 26 good deeds and run 26 miles. We celebrate our accomplishment with a area-wide race in Forest Park on Saturday, April 6. Please see the attached letter for directions on how to register your child for this fun and challenging program! The deadline is Oct. 31. Contact Ms. Schrappen with any questions.

Picture Retake day is TOMORROW, Thursday, October 25th. If you would like to get new photos taken for your child or if your child was absent on picture day, please have them camera ready! Order forms are available in the office or you can order online at code 33022WB.

Do you love to paint? Mrs. Lee is currently working on an installation for our front hallway. It involves painting 30 frames with simple patterns and designs. These can be taken home or worked on during the day in the art room. If you are interested, please send an e-mail to Mrs. Lee at

We also are in the process of adding some beauty and inspiration to our student bathrooms. Mrs. Lee needs a small group of volunteers to hang vinyl signs on the bathroom stalls and possibly additional decor. If you are interested in hanging signs please e-mail Mrs.Lee at

Our next Jet’s Pizza Night is on Thursday, November 1st. Bring the flyer to Jet’s Pizza and mention Edgar Road when you place your order. We will then receive a portion of the proceeds. Enjoy some pizza and support ERS!

Dr. Kira Banks discusses Raising Equity
As parents, we ensure our kids have tools to succeed in school and sports. What about providing them with tools they need to see the humanity of others, and to transform systemic oppression into an infrastructure for equity? Join the discussion with Dr. Kira Banks, an associate professor of psychology, whose YouTube series and online workshops focus on what it takes to prepare kids to be the change we want to see in the world.
When: 7 – 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 8
Where: Steger Sixth Grade Center

From our school nurse:
Parents, just to give you a heads up on what health issues are out in the community right now and what we are seeing an increase of at Edgar Road Elementary. First is Fifth’s Disease. Please visit for more information. Second is Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease. Please visit for more information. Please continue to use good hand washing. Keep your child home if he or she has a fever or been vomiting. They must be fever free for 24 hours before returning. Even though they seem fine, they still can be contagious and can pass it to other students and staff. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 314-918-4502 or email me at Thank you!

From the Counselor
Kindergarten, First and Second grade students will be finishing their Unit on Feelings and Coping Strategies this week. I will be checking in with each student while they are in class to see if they can name the different Zones and name a feeling that goes with each Zone. I will also be checking to see if they have at least one strategy they can use to calm down.

I will also be checking in with Third and Fourth grade students next week about their knowledge of the Zones and if they know a strategy to get out of the Blue, Yellow and Red Zones or a strategy to stay in the Green Zone. They have been working hard this unit, so I know they will do great!
Fifth graders will be having their final time with me before they move in to their official Team 5 groups! Next week, they will find out their groups and their group leaders. They are excited! This week, we are focusing on rounding out what they have learned about the 7 Habits of Happy Kids.
Kindergarten - Fourth grade will focus in November and December on a kindness and empathy unit. Stay tuned!!

I have heard so much great feedback about the Zones of Regulation and coping strategies. If you have any questions or would like to discuss these strategies more for your child, feel free to email or call!
