Welcome to The Paw Print! Here is what’s happening at Edgar Road:

Dear Edgar Road Families,
It is very important to me to develop a strong school community. To that end, I would like to give you an opportunity to provide feedback that supports or suggests new ideas for our current practices. I would appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to complete the survey using the link below. If you could submit this survey before Nov. 12th I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you very much for participating in the survey and supporting your child’s school.

It’s that time of year when we come together and discuss your child’s progress at school. Parent teacher conferences are the week of November 12th and we are using to make signups as convenient as possible for you. Please click on or enter the following web address into your browser window to get started:

Next, select your child's teacher; you can select more than one if applicable to your family. You will then register your child's name, then your name and contact information. This creates a registration for each child and sends you a confirmation email with a link to choose a conference time for that teacher. It is a two-step process, as the first registration just gets you into the system. Going to the email that is generated from your registration and clicking on the active link, will allow you to choose a conference time for the teacher. Please feel free to contact the office or your child's teacher if you have any problems getting signed up. We are looking forward to seeing everybody the week of November 12th!

October Home/School Connection Questions
Why is family important to you? What do you value most about your family? What is hard about your family for you? What do you do when you are being a “good family member”?

How Can I Support ERS Students?
As you can imagine, teachers are always looking for new ways to support student learning. Donors Choose is one of the new ways we are purchasing materials for the classrooms that extend beyond the school budget or mini-grants. The mission of Donors Choose is to “make it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need, moving us closer to a nation where students in every community have the tools and experiences they need for a great education.” Here is how it works:

You find a project:
Find a classroom project that inspires you and give as little as $1. We're a public charity, so your donation is tax-deductible.
Donors Choose fulfills the order:
When a project is fully funded, we purchase all the requested items and ship them directly to the school.
Teachers thank you:
Every donor gets a thank-you letter from the teacher, photos from the classroom, and a report of how each dollar was spent.
Edgar Road staff currently have the following projects to support if you “choose”:
Tiffany Tebbe (Kindergarten Teacher): Learning with Osmo & Tiffly
Thank you for your support!

From The Secretary
We are excited about our second annual Veteran’s Day celebration on November 9th at 2:00PM. We would like all families to have the opportunity to honor a family Veteran, the memory of a Veteran, or those currently in service. If you have someone to honor, please fill out the form sent home with your child today and return it to your child's teacher to be placed on our “WALL OF HONOR” by October 26th. If your family member can also attend the Veteran’s Day Celebration, please return the bottom portion of the parent letter. They will be invited to sit up front in a special area and will be recognized for their service during the celebration.

Mrs. Lee is currently in the process of adding some beauty and inspiration to our student bathrooms. Mrs. Lee needs a small group of volunteers to hang vinyl signs on the bathroom stalls and possibly additional decor. If you are interested in hanging signs please e-mail Mrs.Lee at

Our next Jet’s Pizza Night is TOMORROW, Thursday, November 1st. Bring the flyer to Jet’s Pizza and mention Edgar Road when you place your order. We will then receive a portion of the proceeds. Enjoy some pizza and support ERS!

Are you overloaded with extra Halloween candy? We have a solution! The Edgar Road office keeps candy on hand for teachers and staff to enjoy throughout the day. We would love to build up a supply. Anything would be appreciated!

Dr. Kira Banks discusses Raising Equity
As parents, we ensure our kids have tools to succeed in school and sports. What about providing them with tools they need to see the humanity of others, and to transform systemic oppression into an infrastructure for equity? Join the discussion with Dr. Kira Banks, an associate professor of psychology, whose YouTube series and online workshops focus on what it takes to prepare kids to be the change we want to see in the world.
When: 7 – 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 8

From the Counselor
Our Kindergarten, First and Second grade students have blown me away with how much they know about the Zones of Regulation. Almost all of our students could name the colors of the Zones, a feeling to go with the Zones and a strategy to do when they need to calm down. This is great work!

Third and Fourth grade students will show me what they know this week when they take their quick Zones quizzes. They have been working so hard, I know they will do a wonderful job, too!

Fifth grade students will spend this Thursday finding out which job they will be doing for Team 5. Although not everyone may get their first choice, I know they will all enjoy serving our Edgar Road Community either through being a Reading Buddy, a Playground Pal, or creating a Service Project.

Next Monday and Tuesday, I will be at the annual Missouri School Counselor’s Conference. I will actually be presenting on Monday about Play Therapy and the awesome things we get to do at Edgar Road. I will try to update my twitter feed as I am there. You can find me at my Twitter Handle: @counselorluesse. This will also be linked to my school webpage. I am looking forward to all of the learning that I will be able to bring back with me to ER.
