Welcome to The Paw Print! Here is what’s happening at Edgar Road:

Dear Parents,
Safety of all our students and families is always one of our priorities. Dismissal time is a very important time to make sure everyone is safe. We are aware of the challenges that our community faces when a long line forms down Edgar Road at dismissal. We are in continuous contact with the Webster Groves Police Department to help support our safety and help problem solve both short-term and long-term solutions. In the meantime, there are some steps that all families can take during dismissal to help.

  1. Please wait until 3:00pm to arrive at school for dismissal. At times a line has been forming down Edgar Road by 2:45pm.
  2. Please pull all the way up in the Circle Drive as cars move in front of you regardless where your child stands. When families stop to pick up their child at a designated location in the Circle Drive, it can back up the entire line and cause further delays.
  3. Please stay in your car. We will bring your child to you, and can help them get buckled quickly if needed.
  4. Please be sure your child’s car seat in on the passenger side, or they have access to climb over to the seat if it is on the driver’s side.
  5. For younger students-encourage them to get in and out of their car seat when you are not at school. This will build their independence and help you at school dismissal time.
  6. If you are walking, please use the crosswalks with your child
  7. If you have an older student and are comfortable with them meeting you at the church, allow them to walk and meet you there.
  8. Please do not take matters into your own hands if you see unsafe or illegal driving. Please call the police and report the license plate number.

Thank you for your patience and support.
Edgar Road Staff

Dear Edgar Road Families,
It is very important to me to develop a strong school community. To that end, I would like to give you an opportunity to provide feedback that supports or suggests new ideas for our current practices. I would appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to complete the survey using the link below. If you could submit this survey before Nov. 12th I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you very much for participating in the survey and supporting your child’s school.

Parent teacher conferences are next week and we are using to make signups as convenient as possible for you. Please click on or enter the following web address into your browser window to get started:

Next, select your child's teacher; you can select more than one if applicable to your family. You will then register your child's name, then your name and contact information. This creates a registration for each child and sends you a confirmation email with a link to choose a conference time for that teacher. It is a two-step process, as the first registration just gets you into the system. Going to the email that is generated from your registration and clicking on the active link, will allow you to choose a conference time for the teacher. Please feel free to contact the office or your child's teacher if you have any problems getting signed up. We are looking forward to seeing everybody next week!

How Can I Support ERS Students?

As you can imagine, teachers are always looking for new ways to support student learning. Donors Choose is one of the new ways we are purchasing materials for the classrooms that extend beyond the school budget or mini-grants. The mission of Donors Choose is to “make it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need, moving us closer to a nation where students in every community have the tools and experiences they need for a great education.” Here is how it works:

You find a project:
Find a classroom project that inspires you and give as little as $1. We're a public charity, so your donation is tax-deductible.
Donors Choose fulfills the order:
When a project is fully funded, we purchase all the requested items and ship them directly to the school.
Teachers thank you:
Every donor gets a thank-you letter from the teacher, photos from the classroom, and a report of how each dollar was spent.
Edgar Road staff currently have the following projects to support if you “choose”:
Tiffany Tebbe (Kindergarten Teacher): Learning with Osmo & Tiggly
Thank you for your support!

Dr. Kira Banks discusses Raising Equity

What about providing them with tools they need to see the humanity of others, and to transform systemic oppression into an infrastructure for equity? Join the discussion with Dr. Kira Banks, an associate professor of psychology, whose YouTube series and online workshops focus on what it takes to prepare kids to be the change we want to see in the world.

From the Counselor
This week, we are on to a new unit for Kindergarten and First dealing with kindness. Second grade will catch up with us on their next lessons as they finish up their Zones of Regulation unit. We will start our unit on kindness by reviewing the term “Bucket Filling” from the book “Have you Filled a Bucket Today”. We will make lists to post in our classrooms of what Bucket Filling looks like. Some ideas are: smiling, inviting others to join us, using good manners and giving compliments. We talk about how when we fill other’s buckets we feel good and ours fills up too!

Third and Fourth grade students will start their units on Kindness next week, stay tuned!
Fifth grade students will show kindness by starting their Team 5 jobs. I know they are excited to work on Thursdays!

Ask your child:
“What does Bucket Filling look like at home?”
“ What kinds of things make you feel like your Bucket is Full?”
“ How can we fill other’s buckets in the community? At school? With our friends?”
