Welcome to The Paw Print! Here is what’s happening at Edgar Road:

Please help us welcome Claire Wiese (rhymes with easy) who is covering for Lisa in the office. Although Lisa has not had the baby yet, she is under her doctor’s care and on bedrest. Claire will utilize Lisa’s email so that communication between families and school is not disrupted. Feel free to stop by and say hi and introduce yourself so she can start putting faces with names and families!

January Home/School Connection Questions
At this time of year, we usually talk about resolutions or refresh our goals from the start of the school year. As a family, this might be a good time to ask these questions:

What goals or resolutions have you thought about for this year?
What goals could we set as a family to work toward together?
Sometimes, people pick one word that encompasses their resolution. For example, if I want to declutter and make things a little easier around my house, I might pick the word “simplify”. What word could you pick that would remind you of your goals when you see it?

CALLING ALL 2019-2020 KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS

If you, or anyone you know has an incoming kindergarten child, Kindergarten Information Night is February 6th at 6:00 PM and registration begins February 12th at Edgar Road.

Kids Heart Challenge for the American Heart Association
Edgar Road is again participating in the American Heart Association fundraiser, the Kids Heart Challenge! (You may know it by its old name, Jump Rope for Heart). This is an opportunity for us to help others while we take care of our own hearts by learning about healthy choices and doing jump rope activities. Your child was given an envelope from Ms. Schrappen or Mr. Jordan, which contains information on how to participate. You can register online athttp://www2.heart.org/goto/edgarroad. Donations can be made online (this is the simplest option) with checks (made to American Heart Association) or with cash. All donations are due by Feb. 14. Thank you for your support!

Welcome to the Six Flags® Read to Succeed Six Hour Reading Club! Your child’s school is participating in an exciting program that encourages students in grades K through 6 to read for fun. Read to Succeed is a free program sponsored by Six Flags Theme Parks. Every student who completes six hours of recreational reading before the school’s deadline listed on the bottom of this page is eligible for a free admission ticket, valid at the St. Louis Six Flags Theme Park. The deadline is Friday, February 15, 2019.

From the Counselor
January 23, 2019
Our lessons for “Is it Rude, Mean or Bullying?” are going well! All students have been engaged and asking really good questions on this topic. Our next lessons for all grade levels will focus on which strategies they can use for the category of Rude, Mean or Bullying. It is good for children to have a vast knowledge of different strategies that they can employ and try, as well as know when it is time to get an adult involved.

The St. Louis County Library wants you to know that there are various branches that are offering after school meals.

No Waste Lunch Day
On February 1, Edgar Road Elementary will be participating in a no waste lunch day. As the title of the day suggests, students are encouraged to have a lunch that will not have parts that end up in a landfill.

So what does this mean?

Everything that day will need to be recycled, composted, or reused. So a student will need to bring a lunch that contains washable containers, reusable zip lock bags, fruits and veggies that can be composted, containers or bags that can be recycled.

The cafeteria has ordered silverware that will be used for not only February 1, but from now on every day. They will also be serving finger foods that day along with veggie sticks to help us reach our goal of no waste.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to make our world a better place by promoting sustainable practices.

District News
Hello Parents and Guardians,
My name is Desmond Reichold, director of music at Hudson Elementary. I am going to pilot an idea for a WG All-Star Rhythm and Blues Choir. The group will consist of 3rd-8th grade singers from Webster Groves that will work on designing their own set list and show to perform. Everything will be choreographed, interactive and will incorporate music from today as well as our past times. I will be a guide in rehearsals and bring as many guest artist to help them grow throughout the end of this year. This will be by audition only. We would love to have your child be a part of this group. I’m hoping to have at least 20 students in the group. Here is the link to sign up: https://goo.gl/forms/5zMelqZAWNvCwY133

Do you love WGSD AND enjoy social media? To continue our growth, the WGSD Foundation is seeking a volunteer Communication Specialist. Time commitment would be only 1-2 hours a week.
The WGSD Foundation’s mission is to drive innovative and dynamic learning opportunities that impact student success. We fund teacher-designed grants that specifically focus on novel, “new to WGSD” educational ideas anticipated to have powerful impact on students. We have much to share with the WG community, including highlighting the teachers and grant ideas funded, the impact of our work on kids AND the promotion of our events and fundraisers.

The Foundation is excited to work with someone who enjoys the world of social media and wants to get more involved supporting our schools. This person would ideally be someone who enjoys using Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and any other social media platforms. Time commitment is approximately 1-2 hours per week.

IF THIS IS YOU, please email Becky Hauser at info@wgsdfoundation.org.
Or, PLEASE SHARE this information with your friends who love to post creative updates on social media (and who love to celebrate great things happening in the WGSD!)
