Welcome to The Paw Print! Here is what’s happening at Edgar Road:

Read Across America Week

This week all of the classrooms have been engaged in a variety of activities for Read Across America week! In conjunction with our Read Across America Celebration, Edgar Road will be having a book swap on Thursday, February 28th. Send your donated books to school and we will add it to our collection and then students will be able to choose a different book from the collection to take home. If you have any books that you simply would like to donate, you may send those books to school as well.

From the Counselor

Kindergarten and First grade students will be working with Mrs. Luesse this week on having a positive mindset. Kindergarteners will read After the Fall, a book about how Humpty Dumpty got back up again. We will discuss how hard it can be when we feel afraid of something, but when we keep trying we can overcome our fears and doubts. First graders will listen to The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes about a girl who finally makes a mistake and realizes that mistakes can be fun. We will discuss how it can be uncomfortable to make a mistake, but mistakes can help us learn and grow in to the person we are meant to be.

Next week, second graders will begin talking about Positive Mindsets. Stay tuned! Also next week, third and fourth grade students will touch on Careers, before spending time talking about good test taking skills and strategies.

Fifth grade has three more Team 5 services dates. They have done an amazing job serving our Edgar Road Community through Playground Pals, Reading Buddies and Service Projects. I am so proud of their work this year!

FYI from the Counseling Department:

The Zoo has some scholarships and grants available to families who are considering sending their child to camps this summer. Let me know if you would like that information and I can email it to you.

Please be mindful if you allow your children to be on YouTube. I have been reading a lot of news reports this week that things are popping up on kids YouTube channels that are scary and not appropriate.

A Note from the ER Music Room

2nd and 3rd graders will be presenting their music program at Edgar Road on March 13th! A performance for the school will be held at 2pm and evening performances will be as follows: 2nd grade at 6pm and 3rd grade at 7pm.

A Note from WINGS and Project Plus

The WINGS and Project Plus students from Mrs. Pott’s class studied the Global Goals for Sustainable Development created by the United Nations. The Goals want to help make the world a better place. Some of the goals include Life on Land, Life Below Water, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Climate Action, No Poverty, Health and Wellbeing, and more. We want to support the World Wildlife Fund because 84% of the funds raised goes towards their program, and because of their mission which is “to conserve nature and reduce the most pressing threats to the diversity of life on Earth.” Their mission helps with many of the Global Goals that were important to us, particularly ones related to the environment. You can help us support the World Wildlife Fund by participating in our Spirit Week, February 25-March 1. Each day there will be something that you can wear or bring in for $1 a day. That money will go towards the World Wildlife Fund. On Monday, we will have hat day. Tuesday is bring a stuffed animal day. Wednesday is Wacky Wednesday. Thursday is Jersey/sports day. Friday is pajama day. If you would like to donate additional money, you can donate on our WWF donation page.

Webster Groves Parent Advisory Council (PAC)
The Webster Groves district Parent Advisory Council (PAC) was formed by families who expect that children with disabilities and/or unique learning needs are educated effectively, afforded the dignity of belonging, and valued throughout all Webster Groves School District learning opportunities and experiences. PAC representatives communicate regularly and directly with Special School District (SSD) and Webster Groves administrators about the needs and interests of students who have IEPs and 504 plans. We hope that as we continue to grow, our membership will be representative of the full diversity of our student body and their families. Rebecca O’Laughlin is the current Webster Groves representative to the SSD PAC. “Like” the Webster Groves PAC Facebook page or contact us for more information about our meetings or if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to help!
