Welcome to The Paw Print! Here is what’s happening at Edgar Road:

From The Secretary
Please complete the District’s online registration information if you haven’t already. This is extremely important and needs to be done in order for your child/ren to use technology at school. Enclosed in the attachments is the instructions that were sent by the District over the summer. We will have computers available on Monday and Wednesday night next week during conference week for parents to complete the registration if you need assistance.

Dismissal is going very well! Be sure to pull all the way up in the circle drive. Remember, there can be NO stopping on Edgar Road. If there is no room to pull in the circle drive, the police request that you circle around the neighborhood until a spot opens up in the circle drive.

Make sure you check with your child’s teacher about signing up for Jump Start conferences. These will take place the week of August 26th. Be sure to stop by and see Music, Art, PE, and Library!

During the jump start conferences, we will have the Eye See Me book fair. We are excited to partner with the EyeSeeMe African American Children's Bookstore in providing the very best books available on the market today that highlight positive, self-reflective, images of a variety of cultures.
The fair will be Monday –Thursday, August 26-29. It will be open briefly before and for a short time after school and during the conferences on Monday and Wednesday evening. There will also be an online book fair that benefits Edgar Road. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Wright, wright.brenda@wgmail.org.

Picture day will be on Wednesday, September 4th. Please have your child bring in their order forms with them that day. You can also order online! Please see link below.

PTO News
The Edgar Road PTO is excited to welcome back everyone for the 2019-2020 school year! Our vision is to foster community through events and get togethers; host fundraisers to support our staff and school and to provide a supportive network where EVERYONE can participate, receive support and have FUN! PTO is open to every parent and we want to connect with you! Check out our Facebook via the first link below to stay up to date on PTO events and updates throughout the year!

We also need your time and talents to make many of our special events at ERS a reality. No matter how much time you have to offer - there is a job for you! Many volunteer needs are a "one time thing" and do not require attending meetings or more than an hour or two of your time this year. The second link will direct you to Sign Up Genius where you can virtually sign up for the volunteer opportunity that is right for you. A big thank you to all of our volunteers who have already helped out thus far this year!

Please mark your calendars for our first meeting, Thursday, September 5th at 6:30pm. Babysitting will be provided. We do our very best to keep our meetings to one hour. See you there!

We hope all of the new families to Edgar Road enjoyed the welcome to Edgar Road yard signs. If you received one of these signs, please return them to the school office so they can be used again next year. We appreciate all of the volunteers who helped welcome our new families

From the Counselor
We are well into the first weeks back and I am so impressed with our Edgar Road students. They have been doing amazing!
Next week, Kindergarten, First grade and Mrs. McClure’s classes will have their first counseling lessons for the year. We will be learning/reviewing the Zones of Regulation, which is a great visual to help kids talk about their feelings! You can see the visual below to understand what your students are talking about when they say “Zones”.

This is a good visual to leave up in your house or a child’s bedroom. Sometimes, kids can’t name a feeling, but they can easily say, “I’m in the blue zone”. This can help you narrow down the feeling and then help your child problem solve what to do.

If you are having trouble with separation between you and your child this year, the link below has some great strategies for families:

This year, I will be having Open Office Times from 8:10 - 8:45 a.m. If you would like to drop by and talk with me, just let me know! An email usually helps me know to look out for you. If you need to get a hold of me my email is luesse.sara@wgmail.org and my phone number is 314-918-4503.

Also, the Eye See Me book fair will be held in the library during jump start conferences, and it would be helpful to let parents know about it in the Paw Print as well. Dates and times are: Monday 8/26, 3:30- 6:30pm, and Wednesday 8/28, 3:30- 7pm. We are still looking for a few parents to help out, if anyone is interested in volunteering, please contact me at Erin.D.Shank@gmail.com

District News
Did you know that the Webster Groves School District Foundation gave over $36,000 in grants to district teachers last school year? These grants have helped bring innovative projects and teaching to your child's school! The Foundation is always looking for volunteers to help with fundraising events (Webster on Wheels, Run for Webster and more). If you have time to give or want to learn more about the Foundation please email info@wgsdfoundation.org

Cafe News
If you have money to put in your child’s lunch account, please send it with your child or drop it off to Linda in the cafeteria. Cash or check is accepted. Please make sure your child’s name is included on the check or on a note with the cash. You can also add money to your child’s lunch account using the online parent portal, but please be aware that there is a small fee associated with it.

How Can I Support ERS Students?
As you can imagine, teachers are always looking for new ways to support student learning. Donors Choose is one of the new ways we are purchasing materials for the classrooms that extend beyond the school budget or mini-grants. The mission of Donors Choose is to “make it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need, moving us closer to a nation where students in every community have the tools and experiences they need for a great education.” Here is how it works:

You find a project:
Find a classroom project that inspires you and give as little as $1. We're a public charity, so your donation is tax-deductible.

Donors Choose fulfills the order:
When a project is fully funded, we purchase all the requested items and ship them directly to the school.

Teachers thank you:
Every donor gets a thank-you letter from the teacher, photos from the classroom, and a report of how each dollar was spent.

Edgar Road staff currently have the following projects to support if you “choose”:

I want to make sure my students have the materials and experiences they need to succeed, so I just created a request for my classroom at DonorsChoose.org: Flexible Seating.
Give to my classroom by August 26 and your donation will be doubled thanks to DonorsChoose.org. Just enter the code LIFTOFF on the payment page and you'll be matched dollar for dollar (up to $50).

If you chip in to help my students, you'll get awesome photos and our heartfelt thanks.
Thanks so much,
Nancy Raymond
P.S. If you know anyone who may want to help my classroom, please pass this along!
