Welcome to The Paw Print! Here is what’s happening at Edgar Road:
We have a wonderful shelf in Mrs. Coco’s kindergarten room called the Sharing Shelf. Supplied on the shelf are basic need items – canned food, soups, noodles, soaps, toothpaste and toothbrushes, diapers, paper towels, socks, cereal and toilet paper. Life is full of peaks and valleys. It feels so good to be on top. And there is nothing wrong with being in a season of abundance! But I am sure we have all felt, at some point, the crummy feeling of being in the valley - it could be financial, emotional, relational ... whatever it is, it's hard! The Sharing Shelf is a place to help anyone in any type of need, whatever it may look like. If you or someone you know are feeling like your cup is empty right now, or it may be some time in the future, we would be happy to help fill it up. Send Mrs. Cocos or myself an email, a note in your child’s folder, talk to a teacher in person, message Mrs. Cocos or myself on social media, whatever you are comfortable with - and we will get items sent home to you! Our goal is not to keep the shelf stocked, but to get items out and in the hands of families!

March 4, 2020
Happy March! Each class only has two more counseling lessons in March and then NCADA (National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse) comes.
Kindergarten, First and Mrs. McClure’s room will be meeting with me for classroom counseling lessons this week. Each class will be reviewing the Six Career Paths and then working in their centers on different aspects of learning about careers. Students will be exploring their own interests, as well! Ask your child which path or paths they are most interested in and why. This link will lead you to the full poster available on the internet: http://www.missouricareereducation.org/doc/pathposter/2009-path-poster.pdf
In April, NCADA will be here to teach lessons to K-5 on various topics. Each classroom will receive 4 lessons. Below are the topics for each grade level:
K: Winning Friendships - promoting language and behaviors that build friendships and provide skills to handle uncomfortable feelings such as anger and conflict.
1st: Caring 4 Classmates- helps young children develop social competency skills: self-respect, sharing and reaching out to friends.
2nd: Friendship Rules-introduction to four friendship rules: friends include others, friends give others a chance, it’s okay for friends to be different and friends laugh and play together.
3rd: Building You, Building Me: explores the different levels of friendship and focuses on the language and behaviors that can either build or “wreck” friendships.
4th: Taking Charge of Me - promotes some important ways to be in charge of yourself: recognize and respect the uniqueness of self and others; set goals for yourself; and take responsibility for your actions.
5th: O2BDrugFree: provides information on alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. It also helps students understand that respecting themselves and using refusal strategies will give them the inner strength to stay away from alcohol and other drugs.
The MAP testing schedule for 3-5 grades, including dates and times, will be in the schedule next week. Stay tuned….

You can also sync the calendar to your calendar. It’s a great app! Here’s the video to show you what it offers: https://videopress.com/v/tthlAbCd.
