Hixson Community Open House Sunday, Sept. 19;
See Proposition E Additions and Improvements
The Webster Groves School District community is invited to an open house at Hixson Middle School from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19. Tour the building and take a look at the new improvements and additions including a new main entrance on South Elm Avenue, library, gymnasium/safe room, expanded cafeteria, two-story academic addition (see new science room at left) and more.
The Proposition E bond issue, approved by voters in 2019, funded the work at Hixson as well as safety/security and accessibility projects at all district schools, including elevators at Avery, Bristol and Edgar Road schools; construction of secure vestibules, electronically controlled entry devices, video monitoring, window and door security and other improvements.

The Webster Groves High School Echo newspaper has received a first place international rating from Quill and Scroll, the high school journalism honor society. The judge awarded the Echo a superior rating for writing and editing, saying "A wonderful overall publication. You know your audience and all your content relates to them. You have very strong visuals, writing and editing, and your digital platforms offer a solid foundation.
Run for Webster to Offer In-Person and Virtual Options
On Oct. 16, the Webster Groves School District Foundation will once again sponsor an in-person Ivory Crockett Run for Webster! Both the 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run start at Webster Groves High School at 9 a.m. For all registration information and to volunteer, please visit the Foundation's homepage and click on Run for Webster 5k at the top https://www.wgsdfoundation.org/
WGSD Foundation is also offering a series of virtual 5k runs, with one starting from every Webster Groves School District school, and a special Ivory Crockett Challenge 5k, starting from Ivory Crockett Park in historic North Webster. Registration for all activities begins on September 1.
In 1974, Ivory Crockett, an 1968 alumnus of Webster Groves High School, ran the fastest 100-yard dash with manual timing of 9.0 seconds, a record that stands today. Please join the celebration of Mr. Crockett's achievements with this communitywide event. The proceeds benefit WGSD students and staff through Foundation Grants and Ivory Crockett Scholarships.
Webster Reads! Poster Contest Winners
Congratulations to the winners of the Webster Reads! poster contest. They are Norah Rohlfing, 11th grade, who received $75 for first place; Cecilia Likos, 11th grade, second place $50 and Eva Henry, 10th grade, $25 for third place. Webster Reads! is a summer reading program for students.
