March 15

Dear WGSD Families and Staff,

This afternoon a group of regional superintendents gathered with local health and government officials and a member of the Archdiocese of St. Louis schools to discuss the latest developments regarding COVID-19, commonly known as the novel coronavirus. As a result of the latest information, and in effort to band together as a region to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the decision was made to close schools through a preliminary end date of April 3, 2020.

Please know that the decision to close schools was not taken lightly. We know that the learning that occurs within the walls of our schools can’t be replicated from home and we know the burden this will place on families across our district and the region as a whole. We in the WGSD are committed to doing whatever we can, along with local and regional partners, to care for our students, staff and families during this time, while also demonstrating care for the health and lives of others.
Over the past few weeks, school district personnel have been preparing for this event should it be needed. Specific details surrounding this closure are still being finalized, and will be shared later in the next few days.

We’ll work together to make the best of this unique and historic circumstance!

With care,
