Art students at Webster Groves High School have made life-size sculptures of themselves, based on the work of American artist Duane Hanson. The students used pvc pipes for the skeletons. They wrapped themselves in plastic, then wrapped packing tape over the plastic. After sliding the plastic off, the students stuffed it, dressed the mannequins in their own clothes, painted faces and voila! Life-size self portraits.
You can see the mannequins around town in Krueger Pottery, the Webster Groves Public Library, in the High School Guidance Office and more places to come. In addition, Old Orchard Gallery in Webster Groves will feature the mannequins in a show that opens Feb. 1.
