Message sent to families and staff regarding Attorney General

2/26/2024 -

Dear WGSD community,

I am writing to address recent concerns that you may have seen in the news, stemming from the notice issued by the Missouri Attorney General regarding the hiring practices of the Webster Groves School District.

The claims made in the notice are both unfounded and, frankly, absurd. The Webster Groves School District has not, and will not, discriminate against anyone in hiring based upon the person’s race. However, the District remains committed to having a diverse faculty to serve our diverse student population and is willing to take the effort to attract, support and retain that staff.

Instead of investing time and effort in crafting and sending letters filled with unsubstantiated claims to school districts and media outlets, I hope that in the future the Attorney General will proactively engage with districts to ensure the accuracy of information before issuing such letters.

Thank you for your continued support of our efforts in the WGSD to provide your children with the best teachers and staff!

Dr. John Simpson
Superintendent
Webster Groves School District
